Now accepting nominations...
Every summer for the past several years I have chosen a "classic" to read over the summer, typically one that is longer in length that I didn't have time to read during the school year (yes, I know, ironic that the English teacher doesn't have time to read). As Memorial Day has officially passed us by and summer has unofficially begun, I have started to think about this year's classic. Past choices have included A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Mill on the Floss,Moby Dick, and Les Miserables. Any suggestions? There are still several Dickens I haven't read, Hardys I haven't read (and I do love Tess so), and I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I haven't read any of the Russians. Let the voting begin...

Brothers Karamazov. It will take all summer.
I don't remember how long it is, but what about Crime and Punishment? I remember really enjoying that book in high school. The "superman theory" in the book was really interesting too.
p.s. I started reading the unabridged version of Les Mis. a year ago and haven't gotten very far. I can put it down for long periods of time and start reading it again and I feel like I haven't really missed (or forgotten) anything. So far I've enjoyed the abridged version more than the unabridged. Perhaps it's just a bit too wordy for me.
This is one that I haven't read yet, but it's on my shelf waiting for me. I have seen the BBC version of the book and LOVED it! It's very Jane Austen-istic - anyway, my recommendation would be "North and South" by Elizabeth Gaskell.
Personally, I love Dostoevsky. Crime and Punishment and Brothers...both are good...
I dunno what you should read, but NOT Atlas Shrugged.

personally, I like Solzhenitsyn if you're looking for Russians.

I loved Anna Karenina. Maybe a good place to start on all of those Russians...

I loved Anna Karenina. I read it about 3 mo. after Roo was born. It is such a beautiful story.
