This last week we went to Northern California, where we met up with Dave's parents, brother, sister, niece, cousins, and grandparents. We had a wonderful time. It would take too long (and I have too many great pictures) to recount the vacation all in one post, so I'm going to do it over the next week.
Last Saturday night we flew out to San Jose. Emma only slept for one hour out of six, but she wasn't too bad--just looking at all of the people on the plane. We scored a spare seat by us so we could bring her carseat, but of course she hardly wanted to be in it. We made it to the hotel by 11 pm, Cali time, and though Emma only took a short nap in the car, she took umbrage at the hotel's crib and cried for the next two hours (yes, if you're keeping track, that's one am PST and FOUR am EST). We tried everything from putting her into our bed and taking a walk on the hotel grounds. Finally we just let her cry it out. Sorry to Grandpoppy, Grandmacita, and Matt, who were sharing the hotel suite with us.
Though exhausted, we got up and went to church on Sunday with Dave's Grandma and Grandpa Cummings. There we also saw Dave's sister, Amy, and her daugher, Kate, who is three weeks younger than Emma. We were excited to meet her for the first time, and she was excited to meet us, as evidenced by her bouncing up and down all during sacrament meeting. Emma was a trooper and we only had to stand in the hall for 10 minutes out of the 3 hours, though she did start to wail right as Dave's grandma was introducing us during Relief Society.
We went to lunch at Grandma and Grandpa Cummings' house, and then it was back to the hotel for naps. Well, we wanted naps, but mostly we let Emma play on the bed between us while we tried to get some rest. For dinner we went to Dave's cousin's house. Sarah also had a daughter born in November--there were four great-grandchildren born to Grandma and Grandpa Cummings in November, so it was nice to get three of them (Emma, Baby Kate, and Sarah's daughter Holly) together for the first time. Dinner was lovely. Below are the some of the many family pictures we took:
The Novemeber babies playing while we ate dinner: Holly, Emma, and Kate
November babies and moms: Amy holding Kate, Sarah holding Holly, me holding Emma
Me, Grandma Cummings holding Emma, Grandmacita Kern holding Kate, Amy

With so many grandparents, I really like your names for Gramacita and Grandpoppy! Very sweet. We have a "Granny" (which she chose, not me) and "Papa" which Roo just calls all her grandpas. ;-) But I like Gramacita and Grandpoppy. Cute photos.
congrats on surviving the flight and no sleep at the hotel! It's great so much extended family got to meet Emma- I look forward to the rest of the report!
It's hard for a baby napping in a hotel...and even harder on everyone else! Glad you survived! We have a family vacation with Chad's family...and we'll all be in one house with 6 grandchildren and 5 families! I'm sure Bri won't sleep! Should be a LONG week!
Emma is growing up so fast! She's so cute!
