On days when she has preschool, Emma is allowed to choose what we listen to in the car. Lately she has favored a CD of Disney Princess songs. The following are two conversations we've had in the car recently.
Emma: Do all movies have bad guys? [She doesn't like to watch the actual Disney princess movies, because they scare her.]
Me: Yes. Bad guys are the antagonists, who create conflict with the protagonist, or main character. Conflict creates the plot.

Emma: What is this Pocahontas song about?
Me: A river. Well, really it's a metaphor.
Emma: What's the other Pocahontas song about?
Me: The wind. That's a metaphor too.

Ha ha ha ha ha, I love it! That's how I explain things to Mary (Ed's oldest), but she's 8 and pretty deep. She seems to get most of it.
That's exactly how I will be with our little guy. Emma is so smart because you don't "dumb" things down for her. I love that you explain things enough to answer her question, but also provide an opportunity for another question and learning experience. We love having her in our primary class!
That's awesome! I love that she asks you these questions. And why wouldn't you answer her in that way? After all, she's a genius like her parents.
I love it! What a smart girl!
and what a good mom!
