Random Tidbits

*Countdown until Dave takes the TX bar: 2 days. Ack!

*Thursday morning I woke up with a nasty stomach virus and spent most of the day worried that I'd have to go to the hospital because I was so dehydrated. I was able to keep a few ounces of ginger ale down before going to bed at 9 pm, only to be woken up an hour later by Emma crying because she had gotten sick. I have really gotten to know the "sanitize" setting on my washing machine.

*Saturday morning the cub scouts from our church came by the neighborhood collecting food. I had seen the announcement in the ward bulletin and knew they were coming, but I didn't recognize the two kids at my door. Emma, however, shows up at the door and one of them says, "It's Emma's house!" Yes folks, it's official, my two-year-old is more popular than I am. It was bound to happen sometime.

*In addition to our first night up with a vomiting kid, we also experienced our first in-the-middle-of-sacrament-meeting barf. It was awesome. Needless to say we hightailed it home soon afterward.

*Is it March yet???

Valentine's Day, Kern Style

With Dave taking the Texas Bar in 10 days, and me in my third trimeseter of pregnancy, Valentine's Day 2009 promised to be anything but hot and heavy. (Although. If you just count me, at 30 weeks I'm tipping the scales pretty heavily these days. And I'm hot ALL. THE. TIME. I haven't resorted to turning on the air conditioning yet, but I'm loving me some ceiling fans.) So when Dave brought up Valentine's gifts a couple of weeks ago, my response was: "Why don't we get something fun for both of us, like a Wii?" Ever the one to take hints, Dave came home a week ago with this:

He even surprised me with one of these:

Although frankly, that probably won't be getting much use until May or so. Since I've never been one for forced romance or overpriced flowers, this suits us just right. Perhaps my favorite Valentine's day ever was in 2002. Dave and I had just gotten engaged like a week before, so we really didn't need another romantic evening. And since the Olympics were on in Utah, we celebrated by going to a hockey game with some friends. I can't remember who was playing (maybe Bulgaria? we certainly couldn't afford tickets to a US game), but it was sure fun!

A Visit from Elisa

We were lucky this week to receive a visit from my friend Elisa. Elisa and I were flatmates during a study abroad in London in 2001, and though we both graduated soon thereafter, we have managed to stay in touch and even see each other almost once a year, despite living on opposite sides of the country.

At dinner, the only picture we got with both of us in it. Perhaps I should teach Emma how to use the camera?

PS. We are now accepting applications for February visitors! :)
