When I was growing up, my grandmother would always get us a chocolate advent calendar to count down to Christmas. While I still love chocolate, I went with this advent calendar instead from Garnet Hill:
Instead of chocolate or tiny gifts, I decided to have 25 days of doing Christmas-y things together as a family to celebrate all month long. I brainstormed holiday activities, added events from the community, and stole some ideas from here. This morning I explained the advent calendar to Emma and she chose our first activity:
Stay tuned to follow our adventures.
PS. to our local friends: feel free to join us!

So cute! I'm missing ours this year. We've always done little 'gifts' like a new pair of socks, silly putty, candy, etc., but I love the ideas of the different activities! I'll keep that in mind for next year.
I love that idea. I didn't get an advent calendar together this year, but I love that mitten garland. Have fun. I can't wait to hear about your adventures.
How cute is that mitten garland! Great idea. Just might have to get started on one for next year! Yeah, right! :)
Great idea! I did this last year, but I decided to forgo it this year since we'll only be home for half of December before heading to my parents for the last half. Do let us know how it goes.
What a great idea! I love the look of the advent calendar! Adorable.
Jess-
What a grand idea. i am going to look it up and maybe start doing that in the next year or two when my little one will be able to be involved.
Your little family is growing and your blog is fabulous as always.
Merry Christmas.
Meg
Cute, brilliant, reusable and no fighting over the candy! Love it!
